Capri Italy Map: Where Everything Is

Capri is 10.4 square kilometres and it still manages to be confusing, because the two harbours are on opposite sides of it and the two towns are 200 metres apart vertically. This page is about where you are standing and what it takes to get somewhere else. Nine of the meeting points below belong to boats, and the Blue Grotto Capri tours are the ones that most often start at the wrong marina for their passengers.

Two harbours, and which one you are in

Marina Grande is on the north shore and it is the one every ferry, hydrofoil and cruise tender lands at. It is a working harbour with a beach, a row of ticket offices, the funicular station and a long quay of boats.

Marina Piccola is on the south shore, below Capri town, and no scheduled boat lands there. It is the island's main bathing beach and the base for the kayak trip listed here. Getting between the two means going over the top: about ten minutes by taxi or bus from Capri town, and rather more when several ferries have just landed at once.

If your tour meeting point says Marina Piccola and you are standing at Marina Grande, you are on the wrong side of the island with a climb in between. It is the commonest way to miss a departure here.

Marina Grande, and where the boats actually leave from

The quay runs east along Via Cristoforo Colombo from the ferry arrivals, and the piers are numbered. Almost every boat listed here meets somewhere along it, and almost every one of them gives a landmark rather than a street number, because the street number will not find you a boat.

The landmarks that recur: Pier 21 on the Banchinella, behind the white building near the fuel dock; Molo Zero, marked by a painted zero on the harbour wall; Bar Gabbiano at Via Cristoforo Colombo 76, opposite dock 23; Bar Il Gabbiano near the Capri Watch shop; Lo Zodiaco at Piazza Angelo Ferraro, about 200 metres left of the arrivals; and a set of white umbrellas past Da Francuccio. Allow twenty minutes from stepping off a ferry, not five.

Capri town and the Piazzetta

Up the hill from Marina Grande, on the saddle of the island at about 140 m, with the Faraglioni standing off the coast below its southern edge. The funicular gets you there in four minutes for €2.40, the bus takes a little longer for the same fare, and the walk is around twenty-five steep minutes. From the Piazzetta, the Gardens of Augustus are five minutes away, the Belvedere di Tragara about fifteen, and Villa Jovis about forty-five uphill.

Anacapri

Higher again, at about 275 m, and a separate comune with a separate character. The bus from Capri town takes fifteen minutes; from Marina Grande, twenty-five. Anacapri is where the Monte Solaro chairlift leaves from at Piazza Vittoria, where Villa San Michele is, and where the roads down to the Blue Grotto and out to the Punta Carena lighthouse begin — both about twenty minutes by bus.

Marina Piccola

Ten minutes below Capri town on the south side. Pebble beach, beach clubs, a handful of restaurants and the Scoglio delle Sirene rock. It is also the far end of Via Krupp, the 1900–1902 footpath down from the Gardens of Augustus, which has been closed for long stretches since 1976 because of rockfall.

The Blue Grotto, by land and by sea

The cave is on the north-west coast, and it can be reached either way. By land it is a twenty-minute bus from Anacapri and then a flight of steps down to the same floating ticket office the boats use. By sea it is a short run west from Marina Grande. Either way, the last stretch is the rowboat, and either way the €18 is paid at the cave. The Blue Grotto tours page covers which trips include it.

Getting between them

Buy transport tickets at Marina Grande in front of the ferry offices, in Piazza Martiri d'Ungheria in Capri town, or in Piazza della Pace in Anacapri. Card and tap-and-go work at the turnstiles, and a day ticket is €7.20 plus a €1 deposit.

Boarding points as stated by each operator on 5 September 2026. Several of the private charters offer more than one, and four of them charge a docking or fuel supplement in cash if you board somewhere other than their home port.

Where the map does not help

Distances here are vertical as much as horizontal. Marina Grande to Anacapri is four kilometres on a map and 275 metres of climb in practice, and the Scala Fenicia between them is a stairway rather than a stroll. Budget by minutes on a timetable, not by the scale bar, and give yourself the twenty minutes at the harbour.
